How to Outline Text

For this tutorial we will be learning how to do something like this:

First, you have to write something to outline ;) Choose the text colour you want to use(not for the border) now! (At this point make sure the antialiasing box is un-checked, otherwise it can screw around with your outline

)

This will create a new text layer. Select the new text layer (Ctrl-L) , and choose the "Select Regions by Colour" tool.

Select the text with it. A moving line will appear around it.

Now Choose the "Border" tool by going Image>Select>Border...

I usually do my borders at about 2 or 2.5 pixels, but it's up to you! Any larger they tend to look sloppy, depending on what you're doing. Select Ok and a new moving line will appear. Use the "Bucket fill" tool to fill the new selection with the colour for you border. Now, the "select none" button under Image>Select, and Voila, you've got Outlined Text! Fiddling with the Blur tools can also cause some cool effects after you're finished!
